Sheltie Strutting

Tail high, barely touching the ground, these little dogs NEVER seem small!

Corgie Trotting

This little guy was just running along. Very different markings, but loving the day!

Brava in Progress

BY GOLLY! I got my slide show to work. I am still painting but MOSTLY done. This is Brava. She is a rescue that had to have a leg amputated. I will post the finished final piece separately but you all need to know is that my 12"x16" oil painting will be a raffle prize to help the Deer Creek Animal Hospital bills and aid the Doberman and Giant Schnauzer rescue groups who found her. More info to follow. Mostly, I'm tickled I got a little movie!!

Or did I?

I will post the finish in August when we announce the raffle.
For any interested, she had her amputation and was a bit down, but it looks like she is eating well and coming around with the help of good doctors and good friends.

The Boys

I just got home from a visit to Virginia and was hosted by these two lovely Airedales. I left the drawing with their family.

Leroy's Brother, Emmit

One of the bunch of puppy mill dogs at the Giant Schnauzer Rescue. Half the proceeds of the sale of these DIAMOND DOG portraits of rescues, go directly to the VSGSR.

Giant

There are more to come, as it is a never ending problem, but this is the latest diamond dog.

Stella Mae

A recent attendee at one of my demos, I met Stella and her slave human and immediately saw a star! Because I was going out of town, we got this through in a one day turn around and she finally became the STAR she was meant to be.

Axel, the Spokes-Dog

My Giant Schnauzer rescue is going to be selling prints of Axel, a goofy sweet giant I meet at one of their play days. We are in the process of making prints to benefit the rescue. Drop me a note and I will get you in touch.

This is Shadow.

Another of my Giant Rescues, painted at a demonstration a week or so ago. These diamond canvases are on sale at the vet who handles the rescues... Read about Shadow or adopt him HERE!

Run for the Border

From an agility meet, I met this runner. Somehow these black and white dogs just tend to sweep the meet!

Dogo

This is an Argentine Dogo. Just when I was feeling cocky about mixed breeds, I find out this really amazingly sweet and playful pup was a rare and wonderful breed of its own!

Aussie Shepherd

All those red spots are hard to miss. Aussies are the blotchy breed with the really intense eyes.

Malamute

These guys are clowns. They are tough and hard working, but there is such a bit of humor in that look. Like, would you leave your slippers unattended in a house with this guy???

Just a Dog

One I saw waiting for the next frisbee, or the next newcomer to the dog park... or whatever!

Thursday, July 16, 2009

Rough Sheltie, Resting

This is another of my volunteered rescue Shelties. All that speckled fur. Just looking so beautiful might tire one out.

He and His Shadow

This Terrier was just breezin' along in the middle of the day and no matter how fast he ran, that shadow always kept up!

Another Chihuahua Rescue

This is a little diamond canvas of one of the dear souls our local Chihuahua rescue sent me. These little volunteers were keeping me sane, working on rescues while my mother was recently ill. Mom is fine and I hope the little guys get good homes!

Little Black Boxer Pup

Back at the first of the year, this was one of my first runners! She has apparently slowed down and learned to walk like a big boy. But one of my favorites at the park. I believe her name is Valentine.

Old Shep

I just saw this old guy, patiently sitting, waiting for the children to finish playing and then go home. I am a sucker for memorials of old dogs, but I am always happier when a client orders the painting BEFORE it is sick, BEFORE it is on its last legs. A sweet and happy retiree like this, is a joy.

Baa Baa Bedlington

A cross between BoPeep's sheep and the creature from Alien, Bedlington Terriers are the most lovely but odd looking fellows. This one was waiting at a dog show and gave me a little glance. Obviously it might have been ready to lie down and count some sheep of its own.

Shepherd Mix

My old dog was the best! Ginger was a Shepherd/Collie mix. Right size, right intelligence, just right dog. This mix I met in the park is a little darker around the mouth but has my old dogs physique.

More Dakota

This is just one of the park celebrities. He is a frisbee champ who is never NOT ready to catch something. As you see from his portrait, he is waiting for something much better than his close up!

Noble Staffy

Staffordshire Terrier...or sometimes they call it Pit Bull. This is such a great breed with such a bad reputation. I have very few photos, but this profile has all the breed traits and nobody could fear such a great dog.

Another Sniffer

Nose to the ground, full of purpose!

A Dog Walking.

Nothing much else to say about a Beagle. This is one of those little ones. Just having a great day at the park. I love smiling dogs. This little Snoopy is a dog with a mission... looking for something to play with!

Crested Romance

I mean, this little thing looks like the cover of a romance novel. For the little girl whose mommie couldn't afford a real pony, Chinese Crested are the closest things to Unicorns I can imagine. Pure My Little Pony, and housebroken.

Bulldog with a Ball

I like Bull Dogs. They are capable of taking a leg off, but have sort of nuclear deterrent attitude: Because I CAN do do not have to! Like walking foot stools, they have always seemed very expressive and communicative to me..

This one has a ball!

Friday, July 3, 2009

Another Hound

I am thinking about a painting that is like Winslow Homer's hunting scenes, so I am running little sniffers through my mind. Doing great on the dogs, not so good on the scene part.

Thursday, July 2, 2009

Basenji

This little girl and her friend were out playing together in the park one day. She was the one having all the fun, judging from that smile.

Pugganeer!

I swear, Pug owners are the worst for renaming everything with a Pug reference. This little pirate was at a Halloween party a few years ago. Pugs are fashionistas! No dog is happier all dressed up!
