Hospice of the Valley Donation

I painted Lin Sue Cooney, a local television celebrity for a portrait show in 2015.  The piece featured her beautiful Standard Poodle, Max.  

This lead me to her and her new job as spokeswoman for Arizona's Hospice of the Valley and my portrait donation of the Labra-doodle pup that was auctioned at their big event!  SUCH A CUTIE!!!

This little trouper was showing all weekend yet became my model for the demonstration in the West Highland Terrier both at the Fiesta Cluster.

I admit it.  I forgot her name.  This is a little friend of a commission I did last year.  I had the opportunity to demonstrate and this photo jumped out at me.

I got mostly finished in the park and decided these needed some jazzing up so I got all free and splashy for two lovely dogs.

Aussie Terrier This Time!

I bet you thought all those Australian dogs did was herd cattle and sheep. NOPE. This is a good old terrier who loves to dig in the dirt. Well, maybe not THIS one:

You Want PUGS???

One of my followers was delighted to see my black pug posted earlier this week. Well... after my huskies, I was a real sweetheart of the puggy set. Lots of donations to events like Pug-a-palooza and Pug-stock! I will see if I can dig up my pug Carmine Miranda!!
This is a little colored pencil guy, I did for a sample piece at an event!

Barney

This is the dog that started my career. Little Barney was a the new pup of a friend who said, " Paint dogs."

That amazing coat that says Aussie and the two colored eyes made this the perfect first sample of a great Australian Shepherd.

Little Brown Cocker

I grew up with Dick and Jane, and I keep thinking "Where were the SPOTS on Spot?"  I have not seen a cute little yellow dog, but brought back the feeling of Peanut Butter Sammiches!  So here is no spot, running.

A Pastel for a Change

Same venue as my two terriers below, this was done at an art walk on suede mat board with pastels. The look is very lush. I call it my "Velvet Elvis" style. 11x14"

Molly

Molly is the dog of a good friend.  I say "Hi" every day and she is one of my early volunteers for the pet pix.  I just now got around to painting the first day we met.  SHE was sooooo ready for her close-up!!

Dakota - Born To Chase

THIS is a dog! I mean it looks like the dogs on the dog food ads! And, when its mom comes to the park with the ball-thrower, it LIVES to get that ball. A rare moment between chases, then UP and at it again!

The Contender

So, this is a BOXER, get it??? 

I saw this amazing profile at the end of a leash so precise and chiseled and ready for the show ring. THIS is one that shouldda been THE contender!

A REAL Valley Girl!

Out here in the Valley of the Sun (odd, as I see nothing higher to make a valley, but NO contest on the sun part!) the Valley girl is dressed in the latest T and bored, but fashionable! This lovely Chinese Crested, may have a little fine tuning with a little more detail later, but I am off tonight for a Gallery reception and did not want to miss a day.

Dashing Doxy

I really was saving this picture for a larger piece, but it is a good thing to do a sketch and see what you can find in the reference.  I am not sure what it is that really gets me about this pose... I like the levitation, the spring loaded spine and conflict of the speed and the breed.  Actually, I will admit, my favorite part is the shadow.

Lyriq, the Tibetan Terrier

Ah, how I thought a long haired black dog would be a piece of cake! This is such a beautiful beast, but one has no clue exactly how many shades of black there are in a black dog. 9x12"
