Cardigan Corgi

I went to Wales a long time ago to meet the forbears kids.  Up the coast I drove and it is as beautiful as can be.  Softer and gentler than Scottland.  A wee bit less green, than Ireland, but so rolling and beautiful.  This Cardigan Corgi, with lovely dark eyeliner, I always remember thinking a chill was in the air and the more colored coat would do well with a buttoned sweater.... or that is how I remember them.

Maltese Superstar

Waiting in the wings and confident, one of the Maltese Winners, was sitting with the slightest breeze showing how much work her handler had put into those long straight locks.  The minute it hit ground, a GOOD SHAKE, undid all the hard work!

Jimmy

A sweet little commission of a very old friend who can see the finish line of life.

Hopefully, I have not show any sadness, just the worried look of the face that was always there when you needed her.

100!!!!

I guess since this is a double and there were a few more, it is acutally 103 dogs, but this is my 100th post!  I am really excited!

Bearded Daschshund

I have a few shots of this little fellow, whom I was calling Ms Congeniality at the dog show. There was a real joy of the event. The weather was hotter and hotter, but this little smiling face was friendly and active throughout the show.

Airedale

I have seen some really good looking Terriers in the last few days. There is something so crisp about these guys polished up and ready to show. I have a very soft spot for an old friends Airedale. Bright, smart dogs.

Happy Little Frenchy

I apologize to you out there under foot deep and deeper snow, but today at the dog show was JUST this side of HOT. In the shade, showing with all their heart, the dogs literally did not show the stress. This guy was just taking it all in and loving it.

GSD with a Tennis Ball

Since my brother's German Shepherd was the last one I had time for, I figure we need another good GSD. At play with the regular gang at the dog park.

White as the Top of a Dandelion

All there was, was a glow of white around this dear little competitor. This one won a group but all you can tell is the Bischon was the perfect little puff ball!

Butterfly Ears

At the dog shows this weekend, this little Papillon was darting in and out among the shaded chairs, watching the crowd while its mom was watching the competition.  

Big White Poodle

In world of poos and -oodles, I figure it was time to do the real thing. He is just loving the day! Clean and trimmed, ready for action.

L'Epagneul Breton

YAH! This is the FRENCH French Brittany Spaniel... well really their Gun Dog. I am the official artist of the National club. My design graces their website and all their goodies. I am donating some work for their national club meeting in March, so I figured I may squeeze a little work in of my favorite pups.

Another Sweetie from Down Under

Young Saint on the Move

I had decided the series of dogs playing at the dog park were what I was calling my RUNNERS. But this one and yesterday's Mastiff must, more realistically be called TROTTERS!

Golden Doodle

Somewhere in California, I understand there is an entire "Doodle" shop of all the mixed Poodle breeds.  This was one of the most jolly faces I have seen.  Not a problem getting a shot.  Purely movie star!

Mastiff on the Run

These guys are known for their amazing lips, and the smile that turned out in this piece was a perfect representation of a dog fully enjoying its run in the park with dog buddies!
I worked on this guy at a rescue event on Sunday. Hopefully, some new followers will recongnize him.

Two Dogs on Speculation

I have been consulting to help a friend with a book he is writing.  Not really sure what the plot is but these are the main characters.  While waiting for the rest, I decided we may have to start the cover!

Spots on the Run

After my photo shoot one day in the park, I came up to this owner and said. "All I saw when she ran by was a blur of spots!"  Spots on the run.

Aussie

That amazing coat that says Aussie and the two colored eyes made this the perfect first sample of a great Australian Shepherd.

Dotty

No, I really don't know this dog's name, but I was indeed going a bit dotty with the spots on this Dalmation.  It was fun.  Before I put the sky around, the image of nothing but a little shadow and islands of black made it seem like an optical illusion.

Sharpei

I had more fun watching this young man whose face seemed to always be preceding him by a few inches! There is a look of perpetual nearsightedness in these eyes, but he was keeping up and leading the charge all afternoon. A fast glance to the painter lady and he was off again.

Sitting Spaniel

On my Cocker quest, I have found a few... mostly the brown sort.  This little one was at a charity event, just being real good and waiting for the fun.

Beagle In Doubt

I have a magical way of getting MOST dogs to give me a great pose in three or four shots. I think they can hardly believe whatever it is I say to them in "dog language" but they always give me this incredulous look! This little babe was definitely not falling for it!

Finally a JACK

Or Jack Russell.... or Russell Terrier.... or Parson Russell... or maybe a great old Rat Terrier. This is one confusing set of dog! Anyway this is a goodie!

DJ the Valentine Day Dog

All dressed up!

One of my early projects in the new size.  It is a commission never picked up.  So it is my adopted work of art. This kiddo is all dressed up for a party! Ready for a big day tomorrow.

Little Brown Cocker

I grew up with Dick and Jane, and I keep thinking "Where were the SPOTS on Spot?"  I have not seen a cute little yellow dog, but brought back the feeling of Peanut Butter Sammiches!  So here is no spot, running.

Tank

A birthday commission.  Quite a task!  I got a photo of the dog and a photo of the t-shirt and we got him all dressed up between my computer and my pencil.  Shhhhh... the birthday is TODAY so here is a preview:

Moochi

The fluffy white guys at the park that want to be glamorized always have to have a double shot.  First, when I meet them covered in dry grass, dog spit and a bit of mud.  Second ON THE WAY IN to the park, when they have had a run to the groomers!  Moochi was one of those that cleaned up real nice for the close-up.

Regal, but Rumpled Shihtzu

There are a number of these kids... none of them show dogs, but well loved.  The perfect friends.  I will say they have the ability to frolic, but they always seem to be very good referees as well, sitting just out of the fray, as if to be ready to leap in and break things up.

Puppy with Poise

There is something about the teeniest puppies.  They have such confidence and self esteem!  This little one was about as full of oneself as its small container could hold!

Goggles

This little guy was stopped and snapped on his way out of the park.  The owners seemed quite used to the paparazzi, but nver fully explained his eyewear.  I think this guy is dating that Chinese Crested from a couple of weeks ago!

A Pastel for a Change

Same venue as my two terriers below, this was done at an art walk on suede mat board with pastels. The look is very lush. I call it my "Velvet Elvis" style. 11x14"

Chloe by the Water

This is a good pal of mine.  The piece is a one of my larger watercolors and in a looser, sloppier style.  Trying for artsy-fartsy.  Not an improvement over my normal style, but fun!

Chilly Day at the Park

I painted this 9x12" watercolor as a demonstration last year.  It has been in a few shows and is framed now, but I am going out of town, so I have put up some of my older demos.  FORGIVE ME, I am painting while away, but not able to post!

Buddy the Yorkie-poo

I swear, those poodles get around! This little guy is one of those very elite breeds that has the best of both worlds. Dashing through the world, is our pal Buddy.

Racin' Vizsla

Yup, there are a lot of them out there. Again, I think there are more unusual breeds in my neighborhood than some. Lots of Vizslas frolicking in the grass!

Molly

Molly is the dog of a good friend.  I say "Hi" every day and she is one of my early volunteers for the pet pix.  I just now got around to painting the first day we met.  SHE was sooooo ready for her close-up!!

Running Italian Greyhound

Mobs of them. I think Italian Greyhounds and Boston Bulldogs are nearly as plentiful as the Labs and Beagles of yore. They are everywhere, all sizes from small to mini to really tiny... And they just RUN!

Mini-Scnauzer

I had a great weekend with a charity gang from Giant Schnauzer rescue. The minis and giants seem to have an affinity for each other. This fellow was snapped at the pre-holiday event last year and I felt the desire to honor the little guys as well as the larger Giant I am in the middle of painting for a later post.

Divo, the Puggle

I saw my first Puggle this summer and now the world is full of them!  Our local star is Divo, the male Diva (you can read his name on his collar).  Although not my first puggle friend, he is definately the most visible these days, so we have presented him in the blog because he was one of our off-leash pioneers.

Brit - a New Tibetan Terrier

Lyriq, earler in the month was a pup from the same kennel.  Our newest showdog is Brit or CH Ivyglenn TriSong Ja'Maica My Day.  Some of those champion names are a bit extravagant.  But in this case, I think extravagance fits!

Bailey

Little Riley is the nephew (I think that is how it goes if your parents give you an oil portrait of your dog... then get another one of their own pet?) of this darling. Poor Bailey was such a sweetheart but always photographed such a worried look! I think we got a good serious attitude without any anxiety!

Frisbee Racer

This great white Lab was racing around the whole afternoon, completely oblivious to the other dogs. I think there were times, when her accompanying human was preoccupied, that she actually began throwing too.

Kayla, the Proud Sibe

This is a blue eyed regular at the park.  Its owner said he had a terrible time getting a good photo.  SO.... I have always said that cameras lie.  How about a great painting?

Dakota - Born To Chase

THIS is a dog! I mean it looks like the dogs on the dog food ads! And, when its mom comes to the park with the ball-thrower, it LIVES to get that ball. A rare moment between chases, then UP and at it again!

Elegance in Motion

Throw a ball in a crowd and it doesn't have anything to do with catching it, it is the fun of the run.  This Collie just was ahead of the pack, fur flying like streamers and ready for the next one.  Or not!

Mini Schnauzer in Style

Passing this little soldier on the grounds of a dog meet, I could not help but notice the crispness a well groomed competitor has! Razor sharp eyebrows and every inch ready for the meet! Thinking of them at the dog park, one is always amazed at how really good these guys clean up!

A Sidelong Glance

I had a few shots of this very bored little pup at the dog park.  I can almost hear the long sigh of tolerance.  How they humor us when we make them accompany us while we go talk to people and watch the other dogs play!

Valentine, the Flying Puppy

There is this galumphing black boxer pup that races around the big kids in the rough-housing side of the dog park. When hit, she rolls and bounces. I know she will grow elegant and graceful, but with the wind in her ears, you sort of wish she would never grow into her paws. I mean, is there anything more fun?
